This summer, I had the very cool opportunity to photograph one of my long-time families at the Maple Grove Estate in Knoxville, TN. I have done their family portraits for many, many years so when they asked about using this special location, I was happy to accommodate them. Mom & Dad were married at this venue and we timed the session around their anniversary! It was fun to recreate some of their wedding pictures with their boys in them.
When you pull onto the property, you drive down a beautiful, straight drive way enveloped with trees on both sides. It’s quite magical to experience. The beautiful 10,000 square foot historic estate sits at the end of the drive on a charming 15 acres. There are many unique photo opportunities nestled in this charming property. I enjoyed shooting at this venue and would recommend it for an event/wedding venue or for a unique location for your next photo session. Our point-of-contact was easy to work with and super friendly upon our arrival. The grounds were manicured and picture-perfect!
As a parent, you well know how fast children grow and change. We try to update our family portraits at least once a year and hit different seasons each year or try new locations. It’s really up to you and what style and look you are going for… I personally love shooting family portraits in garden locations so that I can capture lots of greenery and blooms.
I enjoy grabbing posed family pictures right off the bat then I will get more candid shots. It’s important to me to always take the time to get individual pictures of mom and dad with the kiddos, too! I love capturing giggles and kisses and sitting the family together in the grass or on a quilt and letting them just be together. I am happy to give pointers on posing with the flexibility of allowing individual personalities to emerge, too!
